Took the scenic route to Sedona – beautiful scenery all the
way – but around Sedona, it’s spectacular.
We were last here about 25 years ago and although the town itself has
grown tremendously and become quite touristy, the scenery is unequalled.
As we were driving on 89A south we came across Slide Rock
State Park which we would have loved to have seen. The lot was full and cars were lined up
waiting to get in. What we could see
from the road was amazing and we were quite disappointed that we couldn’t get
in (possibly because it’s the weekend.)
There’s no way our photos can show the real thing in the
Sedona area – I think only a professional along with possibly a helicopter or
plane can come close to the real thing. The
colors are magnificent. Nevertheless, we
are including some of our photos such as they are.
One of the places I really wanted to see was the Chapel of
the Holy Cross. Unfortunately, the RV
was not permitted into the upper parking lot and there was no way I could walk
from the lower lot so I had to be content with photos.
We’ve moved to another campground which is not as
aesthetically pleasing in terms of plants, grass, etc. BUT it has other
pluses. First, the place is immaculate –
the washrooms, laundry, game room, lobby, etc. are fantastic. Add to that the humor of the owners – all the
signs add humor to whatever it is they are wishing to impart. Add to that the fact that it is really an
adult campground as there is nothing here for families and most of the rigs are
the biggies worth at least a quarter of a million dollars.
