Well, our adventure with the heat continues from
yesterday. In the late afternoon we
realized that the upper air conditioning in the RV was not working – it was 100
degrees inside; and by midnight it had cooled off to a whopping 95 degrees!
This morning there was no dilly-dallying and we were on the
road before 7:30 am heading to Kingman.
We stopped at Mr. D’s Route 66 Diner on Andy Devine Drive (an absolute
must stop with a name and address like that!)
and had a fabulous lunch. Then we
had to go across the street to the Route 66 Museum which was quite cute. There were other museums within walking
distance to which we were offered free tickets as well as a walking tour around
some historical sites. There was no way
we would be walking around in that heat so regretfully had to pass this time
around.
We thought we would stop at an RV repair place and have them
look at the air conditioner and hopefully fix it but we were told we’d have to
leave it for a couple of days. Well,
with that heat, there was no way we were going to stay in Kingman so we decided
to go on to Flagstaff which is at some elevation so it is significantly cooler.
We were 40 miles outside of Flagstaff when the RV suddenly
stopped and wouldn’t start. As we were
waiting for the AAA to arrive Norm wondered if the problem was vapor lock and
all we had to do was wait about an hour for the engine to cool off and it would
be fine. The AAA showed up in 50 minutes
and sure enough, the engine started right up and we were on the way again.
We’ve laughed so much in the last couple of days with these
snags and decided it was meant for us for spend a couple of days in Flagstaff
anyway. There is a lot to see and do
here so we will probably have to take the RV in for service somewhere and we’ll
just stay in a hotel, rent a car and explore the area.
20+ years ago we were in Flagstaff and found this restaurant
called Black Bart’s and when putting a pin in our map discovered that it has a
campground beside the restaurant so this is where we are staying tonight. We had a fabulous dinner and the
entertainment by the wait staff was phenomenal.
I hope we are able to put up a short video of one of the numbers.
Astoundingly this campsite does not have Wifi so we’ll post this
tomorrow.
