Had a lovely evening with the family in Malibu singing, carrying on, drinking, just like being in the pubs in England. Tuesday morning had a lovely bacon sandwich and more shared reminiscences with Dot and Brian who will be heading home to Melbourne, Australia in a week or so.
We had planned to go to Victorville and visit the California Route 66 Museum but when we got there we discovered it was closed on Tuesdays, just like the Louvre. Since we got there at lunchtime and it was so hot, we decided to carry on instead of staying as we originally thought we might do. Oh well, there's another Route 66 Museum in Kingman and we will be heading in that direction tomorrow.
Lesson learned today is to check our Places To See before we start off - after stopping for the night in Newberry Springs we discovered we had gone right past two places, Calico Ghost Town and Rubel Castle so we'll have to get to them some other time.
We decided to stop here in Newberry Springs at 2:30 pm because the high here is supposed to be 104 degrees at 5 pm but it's forecasted to be up to 108 degrees at the next two opportunities to stop which are a couple of hours away. Yikes! Thank heaven for air conditioning (and a lovely cool pool.)
Keep cool and yes, keep an eye on where the points of interest pop-up so you don't pass them up :)
ReplyDeleteand we're off! Good luck! May you have fair winds and following seas. Or something like that.
ReplyDeleteTake your time, go slow and enjoy the scenery! It's an under appreciated job being the navigator! Enjoy!
